Compounding

Compounding consists of preparing materials by mixing or blending polymers and additives in a molten state, resulting in carbon fiber thermoplastic compounds with increased stiffness and strength. Tenax™ carbon fiber can be compounded with a wide range of resins to achieve high tensile strength while maintaining low weight.
Tenax™ carbon fiber compounding process
Teijin completes the carbon fiber compounding process through extrusion. It includes using copolymers, with additives such as antioxidants and UV stabilizers, as well as other value-adding agents and strengthening components. Following the extrusion process, the extrudate is cooled in water or by spraying on the conveyor belt as it moves it to the granulator. The granulator breaks the extrudate strands into the desired pellet sizes.
