CARBOrefit® receives DGNB Audience Award at the Sustainability Challenge

Teijin Carbon is a partner in the consortium supporting and driving the CARBOrefit® approval for reinforcing carbon concrete. CARBOrefit has now been awarded for the innovative refurbishment and reinforcement solution for building preservation.
Under the motto "preservation instead of demolition" Teijin is countering the throwaway mentality in the construction industry with CARBOrefit®.
Demolish, dispose, rebuild - when dealing with existing buildings and infrastructure structures, the recurring environmentally damaging process is often apparent. This approach conflicts with the climate goals set for the construction industry, because preserving, developing, converting and repurposing the existing building stock is seen as the key adjusting screw for making the industry sustainable.
Teijin has always been one of the most important suppliers of carbon fibers to the construction industry, for example for fabrics and pultruded laminates. The application of carbon fibers in so-called carbon concrete has been part of our portfolio from the very beginning and has developed into an important mainstay and strategic market area in recent years, in particular due to the course set by the special research areas at the universities in Dresden and Aachen.
In the industrial business, the construction industry is our largest market at TEIJIN CARBON EUROPE with 470 tons p.a. and accounts for almost 10% of our annual sales for filament yarn.
"Carbon concrete can save valuable resources, such as cement and sand. Teijin is committed to making the carbon concrete construction method known to a broader mass of civil engineers, architects and building owners. Approvals are an important part of this - they pave the way for the widespread use of CARBOrefit® throughout Germany. That is why we are involved in the consortium here," reports Sabrina Beverungen (Marketing & Sales Manager).
