Pyromex™ is an oxidized PAN fiber with non-flammable and non-melting characteristics.

This product is produced without additional Bromine/halide compounds, making Pyromex™ ideal to meet flame resistance requirements while at the same time fulfilling environment regulations. The Limiting Oxygen Index (LOI) of Pyromex™ is 50–60, which is much higher than other organic flame-resistant fibers. Pyromex™ is widely used in welding blankets, fleece insulation, and carbon/carbon brake applications.

Product Range

  • Filament tow: 312K
  • Crimped staple fiber: 51mm and 65mm, 75mm, 102mm

  • We begin with a high quality polyacrylonitrile (PAN) as a precursor fiber, which is specifically engineered for oxidized PAN Fiber.
  • The PAN precursor is then stretched and tensioned to optimize molecular and structural orientation.
  • On-line quality control of the PAN precursor ensures process continuity and efficiency.
  • The precursor is exposed to heated air, turning it into oxidized polyacrylonitrile fiber (OPF).
  • The fiber can be supplied as tow with 312.000 filaments or staple fiber which is crimped and cut to specified cut lengths.

Benefits

Pyromex™ is ideal for critical aerospace applications thanks to its superior chemical purity and aerospace-grade production standards. Pyromex™ does not melt, drip or support flame. This makes it ideal for safety clothing and fire protection.
