Tenax™ carbon fiber for industrial applications

Carbon fiber enables the production of high-performance, lightweight, and strong components and products which increase efficiency. As carbon fiber is highly resistant to wear and tear, it makes various industrial components more durable and more resilient, providing for material savings in the long term.

Tenax™ carbon fiber from Teijin is used in many industrial applications, from crawler cranes and robot arms to high-precision engineering parts and fire-resistant paints. Carbon fiber composites feature prominently in large-scale industrial machinery components, such as paper manufacturing rollers, achieving significant weight reduction with increased rigidity.

Aerospace has always been an industry of technological revolution. Today, with the development of transport vehicles for space travel and the next generation of supersonic aircraft in development, the industry continues to drive innovation to new heights. (geklaut, umformulieren!!!)

In the aerospace sector lightweight is key and the global demand for thermoplastic materials is rising. These materials could take a leading role to sharply reduce the lifetime fuel consumption of an aircraft, to extend its flight range, to significantly reduce emissions and to prepare for recycling cycles of the future.

Carbon Fibre-Reinforced Thermoplastics (CFRTP) are often named in one breath with benefits like strength-to-weight ratio, durability, impact behaviour, series capabilities, sustainability and to lower the total cost of critical structures. Additionally to this unique performance the materials also deliver proven resistance to extreme conditions and environments.

Tenax™ Filament Yarn

Tenax™ Filament Yarn is a high-performance carbon fiber product that significantly enhances and strengthens the properties of thermoset and thermoplastic composites. This includes for parts and products made for aerospace, automotive and general industrial applications. With a high tensile strength and modulus, Tenax™ Filament Yarn is ideally suited for many processes, such as prepregging, filament winding, pultrusion, weaving, and braiding.

Used Products :

Tenax™ Short Fibers

Tenax™ Short Fibers are carbon fibers with excellent mechanical, electrical and thermal properties.

Carbon fibers provide extremely high strength and stiffness with low weight, excellent electrical and thermal conductivity and higher heat distortion.

Tenax™ Short Fibers are a high-tech product, significantly enhancing properties in thermoset and thermoplastic applications. Tenax™ Short Carbon Fibers are an ideal solution, thanks to their easy-to-handle bundle sizes and modifications that allow for use in high-temperature thermoplastics. Tenax™ Short Fibers come in two forms, as Tenax™ chopped fibers (C-Series and P-Series) and Tenax™ Milled Fibers. They are available in a variety of sizes, for thermosets and thermoplastic resins or for water-based processes.

Used Products :

Tenax™ ThermoPlastics

Thermoplastics are polymers that can be softened or melted when heated to a specific temperature. When combined with rapid production processes, Tenax™ ThermoPlastics allow for fast processing, low scrap rates, high mechanical performance, chemical resistance, and recyclability. Teijin currently offers three types of Tenax™ ThermoPlastics: ThermoPlastics UniDirectional (TPUD), ThermoPlastics Consolidated Laminate (TPCL), and ThermoPlastic Woven Fabric (TPWF).

Used Products :

Tenax™ ThermoSets

Tenax™ ThermoSet Prepregs from Teijin are based on high-performance Tenax™ Carbon Fiber reinforced by several types of thermoset resins, suitable for applications requiring a broad range of temperatures. Depending on the processing needs, our thermoset prepregs include unidirectional, woven or non-woven fabrics, for thermal performance in extreme conditions. These prepregs are utilized in automated tape laying and fiber placement, along with conventional hand laying processes.

Used Products :

Paint

Tenax™ Carbon Fiber is used in special coatings and reinforced paints that protect steel structures against corrosion and fire, such as for oil rigs, high-rise buildings, and bridges. Nickel-coated carbon short fibers provide excellent electromagnetic shielding when used in coatings.

Used Products :

Floor coating

The use of Tenax™ Short Fibers in floor coatings increase the mechanical load capacity, for improved resistance to abrasion and cracking. Carbon fibers also enable static dissipation of the floor. With an appropriate connection, the coating can also conduct electricity and serve as an electric heater.

Used Products :

Carbon Rollers and drive / toothed belts

The large rollers used in the paper and film industry are wound from carbon fibers, making them stiffer, lighter and smoother to run. Drive and toothed belts, made from elastomers reinforced with carbon fibers, are used on industrial machinery, motorcycles, and bicycles.

Used Products :

Robot arms

The use of Tenax™ Carbon Fiber for robot arms and gripper systems significantly reduces the moving mass. This weight reduction increases the operating speeds of robots, enables them to be more precise and allows them to be smaller in size.

Used Products :

Crawler cranes

Carbon fiber holding bars and lashing points for mobile cranes are lightweight, high strength and wear-free. They provide longer boom combinations, with up to 50% higher load bearing capacity, and fast assembly and disassembly of the crane.

Used Products :

Pumps, Elektromotor rotor can for industrial pumps

Milled carbon fibers can be used in the seals of pumps and electric motors, to significantly increase abrasion resistance and provide enhanced compressive strength. Tenax™ ThermoPlastics used as rotor bandages in electric motors minimize the expansion of the outer rotor diameter and enable more compact design, reducing the air gap between the rotor and stator for improved performance and efficiency.
